2020 Summary of Crochet Projects

I won't start this post about Covid-19 - it was a horrendous year and we still find ourselves in challenging times but I'm trying to take the positive creativity I found in 2020 and share it here as a summary of crochet projects. By day (and some evenings) I am a clinical sport and remedial massage therapist. 2020 was my 10th year as a self employed therapist and I had hoped to celebrate this with my clients but like all significant celebrations in 2020, that wasn't to be.

I launched Chroma Crochet with a Facebook live event on 22nd October 2020 and had over 30 orders - I was blown away! So here are some of my favourite creations of 2020:

Blankets

The VVCal by Cypress Textiles started in Summer 2020 where a couple of squares a week were released by the designer, Rachele. I loved making this blanket because each element was completely different. I get bored by repetition so this project was perfect for me.

Coming together....

The arduous yet essential task of joining all the squares together. I can't even remember how many squares there were in total but this bit took AGES...

and it's finished...I don't usually use these sorts of feminine colours but this project started out as using up odd balls of acrylic but like all stash busting projects, I inevitably end up buying more yarn because I don't quite have enough....😂

Summer Brights Blanket
This started out as another CAL (crochet-a-long) by the Facebook group called All Things Crochet Sanctuary but I soon realised it was going to be massive so I ended up free-styling the design. I love cream or white with pops of very bright colours so this is how it ended up - I LOVE it 💙💚💛💜

Love a bobble stitch.....

Bobbles on the border too!!

Not a blanket this time but a shawl - my ice cream sorbet shawl - very similar concept to the Summer Brights blanket but I was inspired by a cashmere jumper I saw in these colours by the brand Cocoa Cashmere...
Lovely soft acrylic mostly by Stylecraft. It's not expensive and you get a great colour range. I would love to try this one is a Merino wool....

Home Decor

2020 was a big investment for me in 100% cotton yarn. Mainly in DK but also Aran weight. I used Drops and Paintbox because they have a fantastic colour range. There is more definition to your work using cotton and I love the kind of chalky finish to the colours although some have a beautiful depth or colour too. Here's what I made:
I love these little hanging pouches that I adapted myself from various patterns. The contrast trim just gives them that finishing touch.
Experimenting with baskets - never tried before. I like this one for my succulent. I think more can be done with this idea.
Gorgeous cotton garland made simply from the granny stitch. I tried a few variations of the colours but loving this slightly more Autumnal palette. Made in DK cotton by Paintbox
Trying out an Autumnal wreath concept - made this for my neighbour which she loved. I love it too. Especially the pumpkins which are SOOO CUTE 💗

Christmas wreath
Loved my Spring wreath - tried out lots of new flowers and my blossom which I designed myself 👇

These cotton bathroom consumables have a been a game changer for me and many of my friends. The 100% cotton I used is soft yet when wet they have a mildly exfoliating effect on the skin. The face pads have replaced my cotton wool pads and the shower soap saver has replaced my plastic shower puff. That's what its all about - reducing waste and plastic. These cotton products and be used time after time and cleaned in the washing machine. Months in, they are still in good nick.

So that was a snap shot of my 2020 in crochet. I hope to keep adding more projects as they leave my hook. Stay safe and healthy. 😊
